History of Villa Cimbrone
Who is the owner of Villa Cimbrone? Giorgio Vuilleumier. The name “Cimbrone” derives from the rocky promontory of Cimbrogno, where the current convent of St. Chiara, which used to be a castle of the city of Ravello, was situated. The ancient farmhouse was originally owned by the Acconciajoco family and later by the Fusco and Amici families. In 1904, the entire property was purchased by a noble British banker, Ernest William Beckett, who created the park with neoclassical and Gothic architectural elements, combining English botanical style with precise Italian style. In the 1990s, the villa underwent restoration according to a project by Giuseppe Del Pizzo, Alberto White, and Giovanna White.
The Terrace of Infinity at Villa Cimbrone
Weddings on the Amalfi Coast often have a common moment that involves every wedding photographer in Ravello: capturing moments on the “Terrace of Infinity”. It’s a beautiful walk outlined by marble busts that stand against the horizon, contrasting with the blue of the sky and sea.
From the Belvedere of the terrace, one can undoubtedly admire one of the most breathtaking views of the Amalfi Coast. The view offers the profile of the Cilento Mountains and, next to it, the plain of Paestum.

From the Avenue of Immensity, you can continue through the gardens to discover the Statue of Ceres, the Hill of Mercury, the Temple of Bacchus, the Grotto of Eve, and the Statue of David by Donatello. The Terrace of Roses, located just a few steps from the villa, and the Tea Room, a rectangular garden next to the rose garden, are also worth a visit.
